"Tell me how you make illegal something that we all make in our brain."

Turtles All The Way Down - Sturgill Simpson

I mean it is a good question, right? But then I wonder if the thing made in the brain is illegal or the thing that makes the thing in the brain. Like if there is a chemical that makes the brain create more dopamine or something.

Either way, there's a lot going on in this song for me. It starts off the album and delves into religion. Nothing I like better than delving into a little religion.

He mentions Jesus, the Devil, Buddha and God in the first verse. God is mentioned in a 'But' and that he is there when he stares into the eyes of his best friend, as though God were in all of us.

Then he talks about a gateway to our mind. He throws out reptile aliens made of light and other real theories that people have talked about. Lizard People.

He says that drugs may make you saner.

It's hard not for me to love this song. I know it's hard for some people to like a song that has a listing of general-use recreational drugs. But maybe that part about "love's the only thing that ever saved my life" will help people cope.

This song is always over too soon. It's like there isn't a chorus.
