I first saw Ani DiFranco in concert in the late 90's. She was opening for Bob Dylan. It was a little weird because BR-549 was the other opening act and they were on first.
So BR-549 performed and put everybody in a weird Hank Williams mood. Then here comes Ani!
A crowd of girls came down to the front of the stage. Some of the "Bob Dylan Sit Down And Listen" crowd were angered by these people filling out the aisles of their pavillion seats, but Ani and her crew charged on.
This was my first time hearing songs like Gravel and Untouchable Face. I fell in love with her sound immediately.
I don't know her whole story but I know there was banjo involved which helps to give her unique sound.
I wish I liked more of her music but honestly it just got a little repetitive for me. Maybe I'm not the target audience. I just love watching her perform. I really like her live version of Both Hands.
